The Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, in collaboration with Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), hosted a reception to celebrate the 70th  anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the People’s Republic of China at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beijing on 30 July 2025. H.E. Mr. Xiao Jie, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China graced the event as the chief guest.

While congratulating on the special occasion, H.E. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to China expressed satisfaction over the ever-growing close and cordial relations guided by the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, mutual trust and mutual understanding. Highlighting the historical exchange of revered monks, artists and scholars in the ancient period, he added that the relationship has been expanded to various areas including political, economic, development cooperation, trade, investment, education, tourism, agriculture, climate change and people-to-people level over the years. Ambassador Dr. Oli further reaffirmed Nepal’s unwavering commitment to the One-China Principle for not allowing any inimical activities to the core interests of China in Nepali territory.

H.E. Dr. Oli elucidated the importance of the historic exchange of Presidential state visits from Nepal and China in 2019 that elevated the bilateral ties to the Strategic Partnership of Co-operation Featuring Everlasting Friendship for Development and Prosperity. He further highlighted the importance of the official visit of Rt. Hon. Prime Minister of Nepal to China in last December that witnessed the signing of the agreement on Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation Framework, a significant milestone in advancing practical cooperation under the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network. Appreciating longstanding Chinese assistance to Nepal’s socio-economic development, he also emphasized the shared commitment to addressing the adverse impacts of climate change referencing Nepal’s convening of the Sagarmatha Sambad in May 2025 and the ongoing bilateral cooperation in glacial risk reduction, including the recent incident at the Jilong–Rasuwagadhi border point.

While delivering his remarks, Mr. Lu Xiangdong, Vice President of CPAFFC, highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two countries of different sizes, demography and political system.  H.E. Lu reiterated China’s firm support in safeguarding Nepal’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; and Nepal’s independent choice of political and social systems, as well as development path tailored to its national conditions. He also reaffirmed China’s mutual support on issues involving each other’s core interests and major concerns, emphasizing the continued strengthening of the political foundation for their bilateral relations.

The Vice-President Mr. Lu expressed China’s readiness to work closely with friends from all sectors of both countries to advance the traditional China-Nepal friendship, deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation, enhance mutual understanding and affinity between the peoples, and strengthen the public and social foundation of bilateral relations, ultimately contributing to the greater progress of the China-Nepal strategic cooperative partnership.

H.E. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Xiao Jie, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China before the programme. Recalling his recent visit to Nepal in May to attend the first edition of Sagarmatha Sambaad, he said that the forum has been successful to produce multiple consensus and laid the foundation for environment protection. He stated that Nepal has an important place in neighborhood diplomacy of China and this 70th anniversary will be instrumental in strengthening bilateral relations to newer heights with high quality BRI cooperation and tangible support. Various issues of bilateral relations of mutual interest were also surfaced during the meeting.

The event featured a cake-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of an envelope to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomaic relations between Nepal and the People’s Republic of China. The event also consisted of Nepali and Chinese cultural performances .

H.E. Ms. Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister, International Department of the Communist Party of China, H.E. Mr. Lu Shaye, the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on European Affairs and Maj. Gen. Zhang Baoqun, Vice chief of the Office for International Military Cooperation were among the high-level dignitaries attending the reception. Over 200 guests including high-ranking governmental officials from various organizations of the People’s Republic of China, members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives from the Nepali community in China, media representatives, among others, attended the event.
