Press Release on the Visit of Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs to Italy

Honourable Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, participated, as the panellist, in the Round Table on Four Betters for Innovation and Agrifood System Transformation, held at the sidelines of the 44th Session of the General Conference of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, Italy, this morning.

Speaking in the Round Table, the Honourable Foreign Minister said that in order to accelerate transformation in agrifood system, Nepal has adopted various policy and institutional measures, such as Nepal’s Agriculture Development Strategy, Food and Nutrition Security Plan of Action and Nepal’s Food Systems Transformation Strategic Plan (2022–2030). These measures integrate climate resilience, gender equity, and digital agriculture to build a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food system that ensures food security, nutrition, and livelihoods for all, she shared with the international community.

Embracing digital agriculture and precision technology and supporting climate-smart and integrated farming system through increased investment in agriculture research and advisory services is the Government’s priority, she said.

The Honourable Foreign Minister also held a meeting with His Excellency Dr. Qu Dongyu, the Director General of FAO at its headquarters this morning. During the meeting they discussed the partnership between Nepal and FAO for agriculture development, ensuring food security and forest development and other related matters.

Nepal has always been an active and committed member of FAO ever since it joined this organization in 1951.
