Press Release on DPM’s Hon. Mr. Prakash Man Singh address to the United Nations

Hon. Mr. Prakash Man Singh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development of the Government of Nepal attended the Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda in New York, today. The Summit adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that consists of 17 goals and 169 targets to be attained by 2030.

While addressing the Summit, the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister said that the Agenda was both universal in scope and transformative in nature and manifested our collective pledge for the world’s sustainable development. Stressing the implementation of the Agenda, he further said that good national policies, priorities, capacities and robust global partnerships should be in place for realizing the Agenda in all its dimensions.

Highlighting the inherent nexus between democracy and development, the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister stated that people-centric development and governance system helped promote a sense of ownership. He also stated that when the aspirations of the poorest and the most vulnerable people are addressed, the ambition to leave no one behind will be truly realized.

The Deputy Prime Minister informed the Summit that Nepal recently promulgated an inclusive and democratic constitution written by the people’s elected representatives in the Constituent Assembly. While hailing it as a historic achievement, he underlined that the constitution making process was democratic, inclusive, participatory and transparent.

On the sidelines of the Summit, Hon. Mr. Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, Minister for Foreign Affairs held a bilateral meeting with his UAE counterpart His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening the relations between the two countries. On the occasion, matters concerning the welfare of the Nepalese workers in the UAE, visa facilitation, Air Service Agreement and Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation were also discussed.
