His Excellency Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, Ambassador of Nepal to the United States of America, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Guatemala, presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Jimmy Morales Cabrera, President of Guatemala, amidst a special function held at National Palace in Guatemala City on July 8, 2016.

On the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Karki conveyed the best wishes and greetings from the Rt. Hon’ble Bidya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal for the personal health and happiness of the President as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Guatemala. Similarly, Ambassador Karki also conveyed the best wishes and greetings from Rt. Hon. K.P. Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal to the President, Government and the people of Guatemala.

While receiving the Letters of Credence, President Cabrera felicitated Dr. Karki for being appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to Guatemala. The President extended his best wishes for the personal health and happiness of the Rt. Hon’ble President of Nepal as well as for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Nepal. President Cabrera also expressed his desire to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations between the two countries. During the occasion, Ambassador Dr. Karki met His Excellency Carlos Raul Morales, Foreign Minister of Guatemala and and convey best wishes from Ho’ble Kamal Thapa, Deputy Prime Minister and Minter of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, on July 07, 2016, Ambassador Dr. Karki handed over the copies of his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Anamaria Dieguez, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Guatemala at the latter’s Office. The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed Ambassador Dr. Karki as the first ever Ambassador of Nepal to Guatemala and assured him of full support and cooperation from the Government of Guatemala in discharging his duties. During the event, Ambassador Dr. Karki conveyed best wishes from Hon’ble Kamal Thapa, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs. His Excellency the Vice Minister expressed her desire to strengthen cooperation in the matters of potential areas of mutual interests between the two countries since there have not been any contact between them despite having similar level of development concerns. The Vice Minister informed about the progress made by Guatemala in areas of agriculture, rural development, trade, tourism and electricity. The Vice Minster expressed her concern regarding the damage caused by the devastating earthquake in Nepal last year and share similar experience from her country. The Vice-Minister informed opening up an Honorary Consular post of Guatemala in Nepal and appointment of non residential ambassador to Nepal to further strengthen the bilateral relations. Ambassador Dr. Karki also expressed that the Government of Nepal is considering opening an Honorary Consular Post of Nepal in Guatemala.

Later in the evening on July 07, 2016, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Karki met Ms. Andrea Cardona, first women from Central America and Guatemala to climb Mt. Everest. Ms. Cardona expressed her desire to help the people suffering from earthquake in Nepal.

On July 8, 2016, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Karki also visited Gemstone Factory in Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
