Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kamal Thapa had a meeting with Minister of External Affairs of India, Her Excellency Smt. Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi today. During the meeting, the two Foreign Minsters reviewed the current state of Nepal-India bilateral relations. Both leaders emphasized on the importance of regular exchange of views at different levels in order to further strengthen the bilateral relations. Foreign Secretary of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar and Joint Secretary (North) Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ministry of External Affairs were present in the meeting on the Indian side while Charges d’Affaires a.i., Embassy of Nepal, New Delhi, Mr. Krishna Prasad Dhakal and Joint Secretary (South Asia), Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Prakash Kumar Suvedi were present fromm the Nepalese side.

Earlier today, Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs addressed the media persons in the ‘Meet the Press’ programme organized at Press Club of India. He also addressed a gathering of intellectuals and diplomatic community in a separate programme organized at Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi. In both the programmes, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the progress Nepal has made in consolidating peace, democracy and inclusive polity through the promulgation of the Constitution by people’s elected representatives for the first time in Nepal’s history. He stated that Nepal’s relation with India is not comparable with any other bilateral relations and should be seen on its own merit.

Hon’ble Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs arrived in New Delhi this afternoon to attend and preside over the Convocation Ceremony of the South Asian University to be held tomorrow.
