Historical Relations

Nepal and Malaysia established diplomatic relations on 01 January 1960 and celebrated the Golden Jubilee year of their relations in 2010. In the year 2003, both the countries opened their embassies in the capitals of the other country. Bilateral relations between Nepal and Malaysia have developed from historic grounds and are based on goodwill, amity and mutual understanding. As the members of the United Nations and Non-aligned Movement, both Nepal and Malaysia have deep respect for and faith in the objectives and principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

Exchange of visits from Nepal

Heads of State Level:

1.      Late King Birendra and Queen Aishwarya paid unofficial visit to Malaysia in May 1978 and September 1985.

Foreign Ministers Level Visit:

1.      Foreign Minister Mr. Gyanendra Bahadur Karki visited Malaysia in 1974.

2.      Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon'ble K.P. Sharma Oli paid an Official visit in 2006 to participate in the NAM Ministerial Meeting.

 

Economic Relations

Nepal - Malaysia Economic  and Technical Cooperation

Malaysia has been providing various scholarships to Nepal. Malaysia began accepting Nepal as a source of foreign workers from 2001 which has helped tremendously strengthen the people to people relations between our two countries. Trade

Trade relation between Nepal and Malaysia is heavily in favor of Malaysia. Nepal imports mainly animal vegetable fats and oils, inorganic chemicals, copper articles, machinery and electronics and exports to Malaysia mainly consist of Tobacco, printed books and Newspapers, antiques.
