Nepal-Philipines Relations
Political Relation
Diplomatic Relations:
Nepal and Philippines established diplomatic relations on 12 February 1960. Nepalese Embassy in Kula Lumpur is concurrently accredited to Philippines. Embassy of Philippines in New Delhi is accredited to Nepal. Nepal has an Honorary Consul General in Manila while Philippines has appointed an Honorary Consul General in Kathmandu.
Historical Linkage
Both countries are members of NAM Movement and hold identical views on many issues of topical importance.
Major Bilateral visits
Late King Birendra paid an unofficial visit to Philippines in 1978.
Late Mr. D.K. Shahi, Vice- Chairman of National Assembly, visited Philippines in May 1996 leading a Nepalese delegation and held discussions with the Chairman of the Philippines Parliament.
Government of the Philippines had sent its delegation in Nepal to attend the coronation of Late King Birendra.
Economic and Trade Relations
Technical Cooperation/Scholarships
The Philippines has been providing few scholarships to Nepal in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, business administration, management and some other short-term courses. A few hundred Nepalese students are pursuing their high level studies in the universities in the Philippines.
Trade
There is minimal trade relation between Nepal and Philippines. For the fiscal year 2009/10, Nepal’s exports to Indonesia stand at Rs. 14,355,013 and the imports was Rs. 245,697,461. (Foreign Trade Statistics, 2009/10, GON)
Investment
Philippines has invested in 11 different industries of agriculture, manufacturing, service, tourism amounting to Rs. 97.28 and creating 1633 job oportunities.
