Political Relation
Diplomatic Relations:
Nepal established diplomatic relations with New Zealand on 26 May 1961. Nepalese Embassy in Australia is concurrently accredited to New Zealand and High Commission of New Zealand in India is accredited to Nepal. Nepal has an honorary consul General in Auckland. New Zealand has also an Honorary Consul General in Kathmandu.
Historical Linkage
Late Edmund Hillary together with Tenzing Norgay ascended Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world, on 29 May 1953. Later on, Hillary served as New Zealand's goodwill Ambassador to Nepal. He also continued his voluntary works through Himalayan Trust to improve the quality of life in the Nepalese villages till his death in 11 January, 2008.

Economic and Trade Relations:
Bilateral Cooperation
The Government of New Zealand has provided some assistance to Nepal in establishing and developing Dairy Development Corporation, improving the Pastures in Pokhara, and for Sagarmatha National Park also.
Trade
Nepal imports parts of aero plane and helicopters, felt wool, fine animal hair etc from New Zealand and exports milk and cream, fats of goat and sheep wool etc.

New Zealand has invested 30.07 million in 9 different manufacturing, tourism and service sectors which generate 2,069 job opportunities in Nepal.

Hansaraj Hulaschand Jute Mill Ltd., Sunsari, Consolidated Management Services Pvt. Ltd. and Sunbird Publishers Pvt. Ltd. Kathmandu, Borderland Resort and Last Resort Pvt. Ltd, Sindhupalchok, Sustainable Solutions (Software Development), Lalitpur, are in operation with the technical and financial collaboration of New Zealand.
