Nepal-Venezuela Relations

Background:
Venezuela is a Northern South American country bordering with the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. It lies between Colombia and Guyana. It has an area of 912,050 Sq. Km. The population of the country is 25,375,281. The Venezuelans have 74.31 years of life expectancy. Spanish is the official language. The majority of people follow Roman Catholic religion. The country has 93.8 percent literacy rate. The country has US Dollar 5,800 per capita income.

Venezuela has federal republic type of government. The capital of the country is Caracas. Administratively, the country is divided into 23 states. It has 11 federally controlled islands with a total of 72 individual islands. Venezuela got independence on 5 July 1811 from Spain. The President is both head of the state and government. It has unicameral National Assembly with 165 seats. The members of the National Assembly are elected by popular vote for five years term. The council of ministers is appointed by the President.

Bilateral Relations:
Venezuela lies in Northern South America bordering the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean between Colombia and Guyana. Nepal and Venezuela established diplomatic relations on 28 April 1987. The Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations is currently accredited to Venezuela, and likewise, the Venezuelan Ambassador to India is accredited to Nepal.

There are no records of official visits to and from Nepal. However, contacts between the two countries primarily take place in the international fora such as in the United Nations and the NAM. Both the countries believe that the UN should be strengthened and play an increasingly active role in the post cold war era in maintaining peace and stability in the world.
