Nepal-Slovak Republic Relations
The diplomatic relations between Nepal and the Slovak Republic was established
on 4 March 1994. The Embassy of Nepal to Germany is concurrently accredited to
the Slovak Republic. Likewise, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic to India is
accredited to Nepal. The relations between the two countries have been marked
by cordiality, goodwill and friendship.
Former Czechoslovakia had provided some scholarships to Nepalese students especially in the fields of engineering, medicine and other technical subjects. Slovak Republic has also shown interest in procuring Nepali language primers and textbooks. Development projects undertaken in Nepal under the economic and technical assistance from the then Soviet Union like the Janakpur Cigarette Factory and Agricultural Tools Factory were supplied with Czech equipment.
Nepal and the former Czechoslovak Socialist Republic had signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of Public Health and Medical Sciences on 1 March 1979 and on Trade and Payment on 12 December 1982. Since either party has not yet officially informed the other about the continuation or termination of the agreements. The Slovak Republic has asked for joint confirmation of the position and revision of these bilateral agreements.
Trade between Nepal and the Slovak Republic is nominal. In some years no figure of imports from Slovak is available.
